Numerous cancer trials have been paused for recruitment during the pandemic.
We continue to support the clinical review of patients in trial follow up. This is done remotely, often by telephone in agreement with the trial sponsors and consultant teams.
The Radiotherapy Research team includes fully trained, experienced research radiographers, clinical trial coordinators and project assistants.
The team delivers a large portfolio of radiotherapy clinical trials, as well as supporting network and regional research teams, where radiotherapy is required as part of their trials. The Research team acts as a delivery and service support team.
Working alongside the wider Radiotherapy service, the Research team recruits, assesses and manages care pathways for cancer trial patients.
We support and promote high quality cancer research by adhering to the regulatory standards and regulations which fall under the Research Governance Framework (RGF). This ensures we offer our patients the most advanced treatments and integrate the latest techniques and technologies into our department.

The Radiotherapy Research team supports trials in a number of cancer specialities, which includes:
- head and neck
- lung
- colorectal
- hepatobiliary
- breast
- brain
- sarcoma
- skin
- upper gastrointestinal (GI)
- urology (including renal, bladder and prostate)
- oligo-metastatic disease (where cancer begins to form tumours in several parts of the body)
We also support paediatric and haematological trials across the research network.
