COVID-19 information
Some studies have been put on hold due to the pandemic.
MBRRACE-UK reported it is not yet known how COVID-19 impacts on maternity and neonatal services.
We are currently recruiting to several COVID-19 studies including the PAN-COVID study.
The Maternity, Obstetric and Gynaecology Research team work on studies funded by the National Institute for Health Research.
The team delivers high quality, safe and effective clinical research that aims to improve outcomes for women and babies.
Work is varied and includes:
- collecting data
- screening
- gaining consent
- recruiting women to different studies
- providing continuous support to women throughout studies
We work with clinical colleagues and maintain good communication with different study trial centres.
We aim to offer women the opportunity to take part in clinical research relevant to them.
Common conditions and trial topics
The national ambition is to reduce stillbirths by 50% by 2025 and initiatives have been put in place to support this.
Trials commonly focus on saving babies lives and having better maternal outcomes.
Our current studies:
- UKOSS measures how many pregnant women are hospitalised with flu or COVID-19
- PeriCOVID aims to understand COVID-19 infection in pregnant women and their babies
- PAN-COVID looks at pregnancy and neonatal outcomes for women with suspected or confirmed COVID-19
- SOLVE evaluates the effectiveness of a synthetic osmotic cervical dilator for vaginal deliveries
- C-STICH compares different kinds of sutures for women treated with a cervical stitch which is a common concern during pregnancy
- Big Baby Trial looks at the impact starting labour earlier may have on women whose babies are likely to be bigger than expected
- APPEAL measures how effective pelvic floor muscle exercises are, after birth, in reducing postnatal urinary incontinence
