Hearing implants

The Midlands Hearing Implant Programme (MHIP) is a specialist service for people with hearing loss. If hearing aids do not provide enough benefit, MHIP will assess if you could benefit from an implant. MHIP opened in 1989, and now cares for more than 1500 patients with hearing implants. MHIP implants about 120 adults per year of all ages. There are different hearing implants for different hearing problems.

MHIP is one of 22 implant centres in the UK. Combined with the children’s service at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, MHIP is one of the largest implant programmes in the UK. The adult implant team is at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, in the Audiology Centre. The multi-disciplinary team are all specialists in the field of hearing implants.
