Jane Westwood

Members' profiles: Jane Westwood

Every hospital needs a Jane. Jane is bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and always willing to help. Jane became involved with the Trust after a close friend had passed away. In her eyes it was her chance to give something back to the hospital which had cared so tenderly for her friend. Over the past five years she has been involved in the hospitals a variety of ways.

"I spent a lot of time visiting a close friend in the QE" Jane recalls, "and after seeing what excellent care he had received, I knew that I wanted to give something back to the hospital, so I joined a Patient and Carer Council."

"Being a part of the Patient and Carer Council and the Information Development Group has definitely given me a very interesting and varied insight into how the hospital is managed and how it maintains its high standards in all departments. I have been involved in several audits and benchmarking to keep staff up-to-date with clerical procedures and communications."

Jane, who is now retired, is a very busy lady. In addition to her work at the hospital she plays an active role in supporting the National Osteoporosis Society. A keen walker, she and with six others, raise funds and organise social events for the charity – and have done for the past fifteen years.

She is also involved in the Health Voice Network for Edgbaston, the local ARMA Group (Arthritic Musculoskeletal Alliance) and several other patient information groups. And if that wasn't enough she has walked over 20 miles this month for charity! "I like to think I'm using my time productively, she says, "You get out of life what you put in."
